We hear from many Plays.tv users that they can't record League of Legends for some reason. This is a list of things that you can try in order to get recordings of your games.


NOTE:  We know of a solution that may help you record League because there are two launchers. Read about which one you should use here.



Is League running in a Compatibility mode? 

Right-click the League of Legends.exe, click properties, click compatibility tab. Make sure Compatibility mode is unchecked.

The default file path for League of Legends exe is:

C:\Riot Games\League of Legends\RADS\solutions\lol_game_client_sln\releases\ [a version number] \deploy\League of Legends.exe


Are you running the Windows 10 Xbox Game DVR Application? 
This has been shown to cause problems. Read how to turn it off here: disabling Xbox Game DVR. 


Is your hard disk almost full? 

Plays.tv will stop recording if your recording drive has less than 20% of its free space left. For example, if you have less than 24 gb left in a 120GB hard drive, recording will stop. This means that you should keep a large amount of space free so that you won’t miss a recording.


Reinstalling League:

You should reinstall the League of Legends program if you have done any of the following:

  • Reinstalled Windows or upgraded to a new version of Windows

  • Changed Boot Drives

  • Manually moved League of Legends without reinstallation.


The LoL Repair Tool:
Try running the League of Legends Repair Tool. It will scan your installation for corrupt files and fix them. It may take a long time. Here are the Instructions on how to use it:
  • Run the League of Legends Launcher
  • Click on the '?' button that is located in the top right corner of the window.
  • Click the 'Repair' button
  • Wait for the function to complete. It can take anywhere from 5 minutes to over 30 depending on the number of corrupt files it has to repair.

Third-party software:

Try Disabling Third Party Software such as Mods (Leaguecraft, SweetFX) , MSI Afterburner, or any other in-game overlay.
Update your Drivers:
Update video card drivers. Read this article to find out how.

Rotating Game Modes:

Rotating game modes are the game modes written in yellow text that are available only on weekends.

Currently, Plays.tv doesn’t support any Rotating game modes such as  Ascension, Hexakill, etc.

Custom games vs. Ranked games:
We hear from users who say that they can get recordings of Custom games, but not of Ranked games. This is a known issue and it's most likely caused by a timing-out of the client during the loading screen. If the loading screen takes too long to get through, then the client can time-out and stop recording. This is caused by the game not being detected properly. We recommend using the Repair Tool or Reinstalling League of Legends like mentioned above.
Do you get recordings, but no post-match game data or pins?

If you get recordings, but you are seeing the game listed as “League of Legends ™” (Note the ‘™’ in the title), then it means that League of Legends is not being detected. See below.

If this is the case, then you should try to reinstall the League of Legends client in its default location.
